As we begin the new school year, one thing many students, parents, and teachers likely have in common is anxiety. So many things to do, so many changes, so many new people, so many things to buy…it can be a disruptive and stressful time for anyone. It’s an important time of the year for all of us to monitor ourselves and one another, and watch carefully for the signs of emotional distress. In the midst of all that’s going on, be sure you’re finding outlets to stay regulated, including getting enough rest, exercise, and proper nutrition. And be sure to connect and share your feelings with one another if you’re feeling distress. Don’t hesitate to seek help from a counselor or trusted adult if you feel overwhelmed.
For teachers who may feel overwhelmed at this busy time of year, the makers of the Calm App have launched The Calm Schools Initiative to help introduce mindfulness to educators in an effort to help teachers with stress reduction and to help bring emotional regulation to classrooms through the practice. To make this happen, they are making their mindfulness app free to all teachers. Just access their site HERE to read more about the initiative and complete a brief form that will give you access based on your school email address.
